Award-Winning National Moving Company Discusses Generosity and Taking Cuts to Prevent Layoffs in Notre Dame University’s Powerful Video Series

CAMBRIDGE, Mass - During a recent nationally televised Notre Dame Football game, Gentle Giant Moving Company was featured in an inspiring commercial and web short that is part of a series produced by Notre Dame University called "What Would You Fight For?"

This award-winning series, now in its sixth season, showcases the work, scholarly achievements, and global impact of Notre Dame faculty, students, and alumni. These two-minute segments, each aired during a home football game broadcast on NBC, highlight the University's proud moniker, the Fighting Irish, and tell the stories of the members of the Notre Dame family who fight to bring solutions to a world in need.

Gentle Giant was asked to participate in this particular series that focused on different types of Generosity because of the actions the award-winning moving company displayed back in 2008-09 when the housing market crashed and it was decided as a company to take pay cuts to prevent people from being laid off (Boston Globe article from March 2009). These actions worked, as Gentle Giant prevented layoffs, improved efficiencies and reduced costs across the organization, and came out of the recession a stronger company.

"While we did not take pay cuts for the publicity," Gentle Giant Founder & CEO Larry O'Toole explained, "it was still a wonderful opportunity to share our employees' story with the world and be recognized as a generous company."
