The Gentle Giant Charitable Foundation was established in 2005 with the goal of strengthening the core community involvement characterizing Gentle Giant throughout our more than 25 years in business. Our longstanding relationships with community organizations throughout New England have grown to encompass the communities of our newer regional offices in New York, North Carolina, and Northern Virginia/Washington, DC.
In 2008, the GGCF will focus on two issues central to the founding values and business ethics of Gentle Giant: youth leadership development through athletics and education, and housing assistance/homelessness prevention. Gentle Giant prides itself on developing leaders within our company through training and coaching programs, and we strive to extend that commitment to local youth. Likewise, we feel fortunate in our unique ability to settle our customers into new homes, and we work to extend that opportunity to those currently without homes. With a focus on these two concerns, we seek to improve the quality of life for residents of the communities in which we do business via pro bono moving and storage services, volunteer engagement of Giants, and selected donation of funds.
Our commitment to community involvement is grounded in our culture, as well as the way we do business at Gentle Giant. Opportunities for community engagement, from races to benefit local homeless causes, to volunteer-based moving jobs, to mentorship programs for underserved youth, permeate the working environment at Gentle Giant.
Each school year, more than ten of our office staff serve as literacy mentors for the Everybody Wins program, which pairs working professionals with elementary school students for weekly lunchtime reading sessions. Gentle Giant Rowing Club, which was founded in 2002 with a grant from Gentle Giant Moving Company, provides ongoing opportunity for the many talented Giant rowers to share their skills and leadership ability with local high school students.
