Athlete of the Month: Dominique Powell

We’re proud to highlight DC Move Coordinator Dominique Powell, or “Domo” as she’s known on the court and by coworkers in the region, as Gentle Giant’s Athlete of the Month for October!

Dominique has played semi-professional basketball with the DC Cyclones for four years, and last weekend she won her second WABA National Championship with the team! Dominique and the Cyclones traveled to North Carolina for the tournament, where they competed against top teams from across the nationwide league. In the finals, they defeated the Raleigh NC Red Storm 64-62 to take home the championship trophy.

Dominique has been playing basketball her whole life and has collected some impressive accomplishments along the way. After high school, she attended Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, Florida, where she won an NJCAA Championship before transferring to Virginia Tech.

After graduating, Dominique took a year away from basketball before joining the DC Cyclones, where she now plays center and forward. She loves being part of the team, many of whom she has known from playing in the same leagues over the years.

Dominique says that on the best teams, there’s always someone there to help you out, and that’s something she has also appreciated about working at Gentle Giant. Recently, Dominique was recruited to play basketball overseas. While she ultimately chose to stay local for now, she greatly appreciated the support she received from her manager, Will Stirling, while considering the opportunity.

Dominique’s helpful and team-oriented nature has earned her plenty of respect from those who work alongside her. Her DC teammates at Gentle Giant had a lot to say:

“She’s the knowledgeable link that everyone turns to when something must get done at a moment’s notice.”

“Check out her customer comment sections.”

“Athlete of this month, MVP of every month.”

“Dominique is a Legend.”

We think that says it pretty well. We’re happy to celebrate Dominique’s latest championship and even happier to have her as a key player on our own team.
