Gentle Giant Moving Company
Gentle Giant Moving Company has called the vibrant city of New York home since 2005. The company office is situated in the seaside town of Red Hook, Brooklyn which sits directly across the water from the infamous financial hub of Wall Street. In the dark and quiet of the night, Red Hook residents can hear the horn from the Staten Island Ferry emanating through the neighborhood and see the lights of Manhattan twinkling brightly. Although our New York City office is in Red Hook, you will spot the eye-catching purple Gentle Giant trucks transporting goods throughout the five boroughs of the city.
The home of Gentle Giant’s NYC office, Brooklyn is famous for its cultural diversity, burgeoning art scene, and picturesque neighborhoods. The northwestern neighborhood of Park Slope tops the list. With beautiful brownstones lining the streets and green spaces in abundance, young families flock to Park Slope, but at a hefty price. Brooklyn’s Dumbo neighborhood is brimming with trendy restaurants and, if you are willing to pay the exorbitant entry fee, its many rooftop bars offer the perfect view of the Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge forms a link between Brooklyn and Manhattan and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964.
The bustling borough of Manhattan is the geographically smallest and most densely populated of the boroughs. You will find many popular tourist attractions and movie set locations throughout Manhattan including Central Park, Wall Street, and the Empire State Building. As the cultural center of New York City, Manhattan also boasts one of the world’s greatest theater districts with endless Broadway shows to choose from. However, Manhattan’s real estate market is notoriously expensive. In July 2021, the top floor of a residential building known as ‘432 Park Avenue’ hit the market with an eye-watering asking price of US $169 million.
Queens is the largest borough of New York City in area and has a population of approximately 2.2 million residents. The population itself is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse in the U.S., and the borough offers its inhabitants and visitors a wide array of cuisines from Caribbean to Vietnamese. Queens’ residents are well used to the sound of airplanes buzzing overhead as two of the city’s main airports, John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia, are situated here. There are also several famous sports venues located in Queens including the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, site of the U.S. Open tennis tournament.
The least populated of the five boroughs, Staten Island is sometimes referred to as the ‘forgotten borough.’ The area is not connected to the New York City Subway system. Instead, inhabitants can take the free Staten Island Ferry to Manhattan across New York Harbor. The Ferry is perfect for those in search of the best views of the Statue of Liberty. The world-famous statue is an American symbol of hope and was constructed in 1886 as a gift from the people of France. You will also find one of the world’s longest boardwalks in Staten Island, the 2.5-mile-long Franklin D. Roosevelt Boardwalk and Beach.
The Bronx is a popular neighborhood for those looking to escape the concrete jungle. About a quarter of the borough is open space and residents and visitors alike can take advantage of its many green parks and fun outdoor activities. The Bronx Zoo is one of the world’s most famous zoos and is perfect for a fun-filled family day out. Its attractions include a butterfly garden and penguin feedings. For sunny picnics, Bronx residents can visit the New York Botanical Garden, Van Cortlandt Park, or Pelham Bay Park. This NYC borough is also where one of the more popular New York sports teams compete. You can catch the Yankees baseball team at Yankee Stadium where sporting legends like Babe Ruth and Derek Jeter once played.
