Gentle Giant Acquires its First Electric Moving Van

From the trucks used to transport furniture to the energy needed to heat warehouses, moving is not exactly ‘green.’ Movers are often required to drive long distances and use a lot of materials to get the job done. However, at Gentle Giant we take our responsibility to care for not only our customers and employees, but also our environment very seriously. That’s why we are continuing to take major steps throughout 2023 to make our moves greener. One very exciting element of our plan to ‘get greener’ is the investment in electric vehicles. Given the amount of time spent on the road visiting customers’ homes and transporting belongings, we understand that switching to electric and hybrid vehicles is not a choice, it’s a must!

In 2022 the company purchased its first electric van – the All-electric 2022 Ford E-Transit 250 – with plans to switch to an all-electric and/or hybrid-powered fleet in the coming years. Our ultimate goal is to contribute to the improvement of air quality and the reduction of greenhouse gas levels by taking our gas-powered vehicles off the road for good. By investing in equipment like electric vehicles Gentle Giant is empowered to become a more eco-friendly moving company, making it the obvious choice for those in search of greener movers.

The Electric Van

Make and model: All-electric 2022 Ford E-Transit 250

The All-electric E-Transit van has a usable battery capacity of 68 kilowatt-hours and an available targeted range of 126 miles. In terms of weight capabilities, the van offers a maximum payload of 3,880 pounds, with a powerful electric motor providing 198 kilowatts of power and 317 lb-ft of torque. Its battery capacity and weight capabilities make the electric van an ideal option for everyday operations including deliveries, service calls, labor shuttles, and more!

Charging the Van

Currently, we have one charging station for the van which is located at our company headquarters in Winchester, MA. There are plans to add two additional charging stations at our Charlestown, MA warehouse this year with the goal of increasing use and efficiency across our Greater Boston footprint.

There’s no denying that moving is an energy consuming process. That’s why at Gentle Giant, we are actively taking strides to reduce and counteract our use of energy and materials. Our investment in electric vehicles is just one of the copious ways we are working towards a greener future. To learn more about our eco-friendly initiatives check out our Green Moving Company page!
