Gentle Giant Announces New Corporate Headquarters in Winchester, Mass.

Gentle Giant Announces New Corporate Headquarters in Winchester, Mass.

As part of our next stage of growth as a brand, we are excited to announce our moving company corporate headquarters has relocated from Somerville, Mass. to Winchester, Mass. complete with a brand-new office space and community to explore.

Due to COVID-19, many of our office employees have been working remotely for health and safety reasons, and will gradually occupy the space in a post-pandemic world. Our new address is 7 McKay Avenue, Winchester, MA 01890.

We are looking forward to welcoming back all our Boston area office staff in the new location. Surrounded by windows for plenty of natural light and a short drive from the Middlesex Fells Reservation, our updated HQ consists of approximately 15,000 square feet of refurbished office space, with a layout to accommodate a flexible staff of 80-100 employees. Gentle Giant will continue to maintain an operational presence in the city of Boston, with dispatch locations in Somerville, Mass. and eventually in Charlestown, Mass. to maximize our efficiency.

Our continued growth as a brand reminds us of our humble beginnings. Our company was founded in 1980 by Larry O’Toole, a native of Ireland and a former Northeastern University rower. Determined to build “the best team of movers ever assembled,” Larry was a rising executive when he decided to depart from his corporate career to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors. He founded Gentle Giant with a friend’s borrowed truck and a $17 investment: a one-time ad in the Boston Phoenix. Larry was determined to guarantee clients a stress-free move at a competitive price in order to create customers for life.

The continuous growth we’ve experienced as a leader in the moving and storage industry has allowed us to flourish in 10 states with more than 20 locations across the country, from the South to the West Coast. Our services include local and long-distance residential moves, commercial moves, craning and specialty moving, piano moving, climate-controlled storage, packing and unpacking services, and our full-service Top Box materials department.

Our core values can be encompassed in what we call the Giant HEART, present in our employees who are: honest, enthusiastic, always going above and beyond, respectful and team players. Our customers expect and deserve nothing less than a job well done, and we are committed to living the values of the Giant HEART every day, making sure we provide the highest quality moving services in the industry.

All Gentle Giant offices are run by employees who moved up within the company and share the same core values and culture of our organization, therefore providing customers the exact move experience they expect from us, regardless of location. This includes our 13 branch locations within New England. We are a privately owned and independent company and not a franchise model. We hire from within the communities we serve for seasonal, part-time, and full-time positions. After outgrowing our office space in Somerville, our move to Winchester is the perfect opportunity for us to have a new beginning, and we look forward to become more involved within the community.

In addition to our business offerings, we founded the Gentle Giant Charitable Foundation in 2005, with the goal of strengthening the community involvement which has characterized our business since the beginning. The GGCF focuses on two issues central to the values and practices of our company: youth leadership development through athletics and education, and housing assistance through homelessness prevention. Over the years, we have been honored to partner with the following organizations to support this mission:

  • Read to a Child
  • Gentle Giant Rowing Club
  • Horizons for Homeless Children
  • Cambridge Housing Assistance Fund
  • Boston Healthcare for the Homeless
  • More Than Words
  • Move for Hunger

In the present, we are an award-winning local moving and storage company with great involvement within the communities we serve. We have been honored to be named as a Healthiest Employer in many of our regional locations over the years, as well as awards for Best Moving and Storage company in many local publications across our regions. At the end of the day, we perform the work we do for the sake of our customers who place their trust in us during such a sensitive time. Our commitment to customer service is still our greatest strength.

We welcome and encourage local talent to join our team of movers and shakers, particularly current and retired athletes. To learn more about what it takes to become a Giant, check out the moving company careers section of our website and fill out a preliminary application to get started.
