When Larry O’Toole and his teammates from the Northeastern University rowing team started Gentle Giant in Boston in the early 80s, they treated moving like a team sport. Word of the Giants running during moving jobs spread around Boston, and other like-minded athletes looking for a fun job focused on staying healthy wanted in on the excitement.
Over the next 35 years, this athletic group organically created a workplace focused on health & wellness for every employee. Today, Gentle Giant’s Health & Wellness program is the best in the industry and in Massachusetts, according to the Boston Business Journal.
All year long, Gentle Giant offers in-office gym access, yoga and meditation sessions, healthy eating classes and fun runs. In addition, we host a company-wide Health Week every summer so that all Gentle Giant employees can participate in living a healthy lifestyle.
A highlight of this year’s GIANT Health Week was taking tours around Boston in the one-of-a-kind Bike Bus. This is a standard-size city bus rigged with stationary bikes instead of seats. The Giants took part in a high-intensity spinning class, as an excited instructor encouraged everyone with a pulsating soundtrack, all while the vehicle navigated congested city streets.
